If you hear about a miracle method to get your hair to grow twice as fast as it does naturally, chances are you’re being hoodwinked. How fast your hair grows cannot be controlled externally, and there is little you can do to alter it.

There are numerous claims that supplements, including Vitamins A and D and biotin can speed up hair growth. Feel free to experiment with these kinds of supplements, natural or otherwise, but be sure to choose those formulated to boost growth, and not to combat hair loss.

No matter how slowly or fast your hair grows, keep these pointers in mind:

Eat a healthy diet rich in fruit, vegetables, fish and if you so choose, lean meat. Banish all processed foods.

Don’t smoke.

Use quality, salon-recommended shampoo and conditioner.

Apply a moisturizing hair mask at least once a week.

Get a trim every four to six weeks.

Don’t layer on too many styling products, the more is not the merrier!

Choose alcohol-free styling products and use your blow dryer on the lowest heat setting possible.

Brush your hair daily with a natural bristle brush.

Drink plenty of water.

We’ve already covered the issue of flyaway hair, but what about static? There are few things more annoying than pulling off your woolly winter cap only to find your hair standing on end.
Although static plagues our hair most often in wintertime, it can also strike in any dry climate.
Basically, the drier your hair, the more susceptible you are to static. So the next piece of advice would be, naturally, to keep your hair in prime moisturized condition no matter what the season. Easier said than done!

Here are a few quick and easy ways to send the static packing:

Condition your hair on a regular basis: this means using conditioner after every time you shampoo. If your hair is normal to dry, applying a hair mask at least once a week; if it’s oily, use more sparingly.

Check your shampoo. If it is leeching all of your hair’s natural oils out, then it’s also opening the door for static. Choose a gentle, frequent-use shampoo, such as Beauty-id’s Vitamin & Kiwi Daily Shampoo.

To avoid being caught off guard, carry a travel-size bottle of hairspray in your purse. (Choose a brand that has an alcohol-free formula.) When the static veers its heads, just spritz a couple of times and pat it down. An alternative to hairspray is a de-tangler or leave-on conditioner, also in spray form. A light wax also does the trick.

Lightly spritz some hair spray on a flat brush and brush your hair; this will cut down on the static effect. Another trick is to spray the inside of your hats with hair spray before putting them on.

If you have longer hair, tie it back, smoothing down the flyaway parts with a bit of de-tangler or wax.
