Hairstyles for the fall/winter season are all about glamour. And what better way to ring in the cooler days and nights than with elegant curls, buns and twists?

The shoulder-length square cut is back. A part down the middle with mid-length layers and thinned tips give a natural, lightweight look.

To get this look: Dry your hair upside down then style with your fingertips. Finish up with a large rounded brush to give a smooth and natural look.

Chic and smooth styles for evening. An extra-long straight cut with a low part on the side and long supple curls to give volume and a voluptuous feel.

To get this look: Dry your hair upside down, and use a large rounded brush as you blow-dry for a smooth look, then curl the tips with a large-barrel curling iron. Finish styling with your fingertips for a natural effect and apply a bit of hair wax near the part for a sleek effect.

Tease before styling. A simple French twist high up on the head and wisps of hair framing the face make for a simple and glamorous bun.

To get this look: Dry your hair upside down to give volume to the roots. Blow-dry with a large brush to give extra smoothness. Separate a few strands from around the face. Start by teasing the hair on the top of the head using a brush made for that purpose. Smooth and apply hair spray, gather all the hair (except the loose strands), twist it once and secure with a few large bun pins. Apply hair wax that you’ve warmed on your fingertips and apply lightly to the loose strands.
Release a few strands near the nape of the neck for a little more glamour!

The 1980s aren’t just making a return in the wardrobe department; models on the runway this spring also donned hairstyles that hark back to the period.
What stood out most in the latest styles was the trend for bleached-blonde hair and even platinum-colored brows.

Short hair is keeping it simple this season. A bob which reaches around ear level is set off with strikingly bold short bangs. (See our post about how to successfully cut your own bangs).
Another option is to have a two-in-one style—a bob with slightly tapered bangs that can be transformed into a softer, more romantic look.

Medium-length hair is heavily layered, which creates a soft and casually dishevelled look—so eighties!

Long hair is layered but also tapered to give a wispy look. This is especially true around the contours of the face, which helps create a bit of a “wild” look.
Styling is taking a bit of a more classical turn this spring/summer.

The hair style this season is a smooth bun tied at the base of the neck with wisps of loose hair framing the face. The bun is finished off with a pretty little ribbon to give an extra-feminine touch.

The season’s trendy hair accessories: small flower barrettes, combs, hairpins for buns and satin ribbons.

Short hair has its advantages—it’s amazingly easy to care for and demands less styling time and calls for a smaller amount of products.
These points may tempt you to make the cut, but beware: if your facial structure isn’t the right shape, think again! Your hair stylist is the best person to advise you as to first, weather you should cut your hair short at all, and second, which short hairstyle would suit you best, so consult with him or her first.

Short hair may be more manageable and relatively hassle-free, but it also means you can’t hide behind your lovely locks anymore—what you see is what you get!
There are a couple of drawbacks, however. A short ‘do means you need to visit the salon more frequently to keep your cut looking its best. In other words, what you save on products just might be going straight to your hair salon. You can also invest in new hair accessories to give a feminine touch: barrettes, headbands, clips and combs give quite a bit of pizzazz!
If you’ve had long hair for years, going short will be a shock and might take a bit of getting used to. Some women have the sensation that their femininity has been lopped off at first, while others experience a new sense of freedom.
Then there is the inevitable issue of the Bad Haircut. When you get a lousy short haircut it’s even harder to reverse the damage than with long hair. The golden rule? Never get your first short haircut from a new (to you) or inexperienced hairdresser. If you are one of the unlucky ones, take heart—one advantage to cutting your hair short is that it’ll always grow back!
