An Expert’s Guide to Having Great Hair on a Budget

Beautiful hair doesn’t mean spending a fortune!
In today’s economy many of us have re-evaluated how we spend our money, and how much we really have to spend on non-essential items. For some, this can mean cutting out frivolous expenses, which range from frequent trips to the department store to going for a weekly massage to the spa. But even if you’re becoming increasinlgy budget-conscious, you can still sport a great head of hair.
Here’s how:
- If you’ve decided that you can no longer afford to visit the salon as often as you’d like and really need a deep conditioning treatment, for example, don’t run straight to the drugstore for a hair mask.
- If your stylist is a bit of a luxury and you really can’t afford your monthly visit, cut down on the frequency of your appointments. In the long run your hair won’t come out the winner if you decide to switch to the cheapest-of-the-cheap hair salons. Once you have a favorite stylist, stick with him or her, as a good professional will give you tips on keeping your hair healthy, even if you need to visit the salon less often.
- Alternate salon visits with home-made hair care. There are lots of things you can do with ingredients from the kitchen that will keep your hair healthy between salon appointments. See our recipes here and here.
Stop off at your hair stylist and ask for advice on conditioning treatments you can do at home. Your hairdresser will recommend a professional product that you can be assured will do your hair justice. While these items might be a bit more expensive than a mass-market mask right off the store shelf, it’ll be well worth the investment. The last thing you want to do is skimp on your hair.
