Insider Tips on Getting Shiny Hair
Posted by Claudie Jasper on April 15, 2009 in How to have shiny hair
Shiny hair is neither a gift from the heavens, nor just the result of a trip to the salon.
- Don’t shampoo too often unless your hair really cries out for it. Oil on the hair shaft actually helps to create a smoother hair cuticle, which in turn reflects light. And yes, that means shinier hair!
- Don’t go overboard on your product use. Too much is worse than not enough, so dose your shampoo and conditioner carefully. Usually a coin-sized amount of product for each step of your hair care routine is plenty, especially if you wash your hair daily or every two days.
- Rinse, rinse, rinse. Residue from shampoo, conditioner and masks will dull your hair if not properly washed away.
- For the final rinse, use the coldest water bearable. If you just can’t bring yourself to pour cold water over your head, rinse with lukewarm water. The colder the water, the more “closed” the hair cuticle, which means smoother and therefore shinier hair.
- Use of styling agents moderately—too much gel or mousse can really cut down on the shine factor.
- Keep your hair hydrated. Moisturized hair contributes to shine, while brittle and broken strands mean the hair shaft isn’t reflecting light. Give you hair a nutritious mask or conditioning treatment to keep it smooth. Beauty-id's Nourishing Mask rich in grape and shea butter gives your hair the nourishment it needs!
Here are a few simple tricks to get the shine back in your hair.
If you tend to get split ends, visit your salon on a regular basis for a trim.
Claudie’s lustrous locks home remedy:
Mix 4 tablespoons vinegar (cider or white) with 2 cups lukewarm water.
After you and condition your hair, pour the mixture onto your hair and massage your scalp. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
This will strip your hair of any residue and really let the shine through!

Claudie..
Is it okay to use the vinegar rinse you recommended for shine on colored hair?
I only recommend you use “cider” vinegar rinse for colored hair as it would not alter your hair color.
